Maximum Ride, Schools in

Chapter 1(Max’s POV)

Itex is finally gone! Mom bought us a house. We were settling down and going to normal school, finally.

“Max, will you take us to the park?” Angel asked.

“Sure, sweetie. Anybody want to go with us?” I called.

“We’ll all go.” Iggy said.

“Okay, let’s go.” I said. I walked out the back door and hopped the fence to the park. The flock followed me. The littler kids ran to the playground. I flopped down onto a swing to watch them. I looked around for Fang and Iggy. They were talking to some girls. Fang was talking to a redhead and Iggy was talking to a brown haired girl. They were wearing skimpy halter tops and booty shorts. I clenched my teeth. That’s it. That was the last time that I could stand it. I got up from the swings and zoomed on my feet straight past Fang and Iggy, to the river that was behind the park. When I got to the river, I threw myself into it and dunked my head under, letting the current take me anywhere. I saw Fang and Iggy standing on the bank with the girls. I turned away from them and started doing the front stroke away from them.

“Max!” Fang screamed after me, but I ignored him. I kept going until my arms got really tired and I couldn’t move them at all. Then I floated down the river. I kept on floating until I got so cold that I couldn’t feel my body. I pushed myself to the bank. I sat on the bank until I could walk. I then stumbled back the way I had come. I was dripping wet and very cold. I was shivering, rubbing my hands on my arms to warm them up. While I was walking, it started raining.

“Why me!” I screamed up to the sky. I broke down into tears on my knees. I finally stood up. Tears and raindrops were streaming down my cheeks. I stumbled to the park. Gazzy was waiting in the rain. I stumbled out of the forest. My legs were numb and cold. Gazzy saw me and started running towards me. My legs gave out and I collapsed to the ground. The edges of my vision started getting black. My body was shaking with cold as Gazzy got closer.

“Guys, she’s over here!” He screamed into the forest. I saw the four remaining flock members dash out of the forest. My gaze locked on Fang. His jaw was tight, his face emotionless as usual, but his eyes betrayed how worried he had been about me. Angel was running the fastest.

“Max!” She screamed, tears streaming down her cheeks. My body was shaking violently and I finally blacked out.

Chapter 2(Fang’s POV)

When we got to the park, Max sat down on a swing.

“Hi, I’m Kate.” A redheaded girl pranced up to me. She was wearing a halter top and booty shorts. I really didn’t want to be talking to her. Suddenly, Max zoomed past me. She headed towards the river. I followed her with Iggy and the two girls that had been talking to us. I saw Max come up from dunking herself from under the water in the river. She turned away from us and started doing the front stroke.

“Max!” I yelled at her. She ignored me.

“I have to go.” I said to the redhead.

“Okay.” She said. She and her friend pranced away. I dashed back to where the younger kids were.

“You guys, Max jumped into the river and started swimming away. Gazzy, you stay here in case Max comes back, the rest of us will go look in the forest. Call if you find her.” I ordered.

“Okay.” They said in unison. We went dashing into the forest. It started to rain.

“Why me!” I heard someone yell. I ran towards the sound.

“Guys, she’s over here!” I heard Gazzy scream. I met up with the other four kids and we sprinted towards the playground. Max was on the ground, shaking violently. She looked frozen. Her eyes closed and her breathing got shallow and irregular.

“We need to get her home.” I said. I gently picked her up bridal style and we rushed towards the house. I got her inside the house. This was my fault. If she hadn’t seen me talking to that girl, she wouldn’t have done this.

“Are you going to stand there all day, Fang, or are you going to do something?” Iggy asked me.

“What? Oh, sorry.” I said. I layed her down on the couch and pulled a few blankets over her. I sat down on the La-z-boy next to her and watched her. She wasn’t shivering anymore.
