Nikki Ride

Chapter 1(Nikki’s POV)

The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and a huge hunk of metal was punching my lights out. I just love my life. I growled and turned into a wolf. I lunged at the Flyboy, roaring. The head came off.

“You will surrender.” It stated in a robotic voice before the light in its eyes went out. I transformed back into a person.

“In your dreams.” I growled, kicking the head. It rolled a few feet away and stopped at a pair of shoes. I looked up into onyx eyes. I narrowed my eyes at the tall boy with long, black hair. He narrowed his eyes back at me.

“Fang, I thought we were finding food…oh” A mocha skinned girl came up behind him. She looked about 11. He looked about 14.

“Hello.” I finally growled out. He just continued to glare at me. Suddenly, there were 4 more kids to back them up.

“I’m Nikki, and you are…” I continued. They all just glared at me. I looked them over. There was a younger, blonde girl. She looked 6. A blonde boy, who looked 8, was looking in between an older blonde girl and I. The last one was a strawberry blonde boy with smoky grey eyes. I looked at him when suddenly, his eyes cleared up.

“Wh-What did you just do?” He asked. I just smiled and shook my head.

“Well, I don’t seem to be welcome here, so I’ll just be leaving.” I said, kicking the scrap metal at my feet then snapping out my wings. I was 95% human, 3% wolf, and 2% bird.

“WAIT!” The young blonde girl suddenly yelled and I slowly furled my wings. I cocked my head, confused.

“Stay.” She commanded and suddenly, my feet were carrying me forward. I suddenly stopped.

“Did you just refuse my mind control?” She asked, awed. I suddenly pushed thoughts into her head. Memories of what had happened to me. Seeing my whole flock die, seeing my brother die. Memories of the school and the terrible tests.

“STOP! STOP IT!” She screamed cringing back from me. I took the memories back, smirking at her as she twitched on the ground.

“Now, they’re your memories. Do what you will with them.” I said coldly, then transformed into a wolf and ran past them. Well, I would’ve, except the older blonde girl planted a strong kick to my nose. I went flying into a tree. The dark haired boy picked up the little girl and ran from the clearing. I changed back into a human, wincing.

“Look, I would appreciate it if you DIDN’T break my nose.” I said, planting my hands on my hips.

“Oh yeah, and what’re you gonna do about it?” She asked. I launched a well placed kick at her chest and she flew back.

“Whoa!” The mocha skinned girl said, stepping back. The dark haired boy came running in with the girl next to him. They both launched punches towards me, but I did a cartwheel in mid air and dodged them. They gaped at me.

“You REALLY don’t wanna mess with me.” I hissed, throwing major punches at them. They fell to the ground, exhausted. Suddenly, I was grabbed from behind. Erasers picked up all of the kids. I kicked and struggled, hearing the Eraser grunt in pain a few times.

“LET GO!” I screeched, twisting out of its grip and knocking it out. I unfurled my wings and shot into the sky. I looked back down. The kids were all being loaded into the back of a van. I sighed. I was gonna have to do the right thing here. I shot back to the ground and into the van, grunting as I whacked my head on the van. The door slammed shut with a loud bang that made my ears ring.

“You came back?” The mocha skinned girl asked, astonished. I closed my eyes and laid back.

“It’s a long ride, kitties.” An Eraser growled, planting his foot against my head. I conked out, barely hearing a scream.

I woke up to quite a sight. The van was on its side. I was a few feet away. Smoke was rising from it and five bird kids were shooting like bullets away. The Erasers grabbed me.

“GREAT! THANKS!” I screamed after the five bird kids. I saw them stop before I was forced to my knees. I heard the shot, but I didn’t feel the shot. I heard the scream, then realized that it had come from me. I fell to the ground.

“OMIGOD! MAX!” Someone screamed and I vaguely registered that it was a little girl. My vision blurred. I saw the dark haired boy getting ganged up on. The rest of them were being held. This was the new model of Erasers. I grunted and staggered to my feet. I rushed the Erasers and took them out, one by one. When I was done, I crouched down next to the now out boy.

“You…saved…me.” He grunted out, his eyes flicking open. I nodded and fell back, passing out from blood loss.

I woke up. I was lying on the ground under the cover of trees. It was dark out. There were the remnants of a campfire. My side was bandaged. There wasn’t anything. There weren’t any backpacks or any indication that they had been here except for the remnants of the fire. I stood up, wincing, but I was too weak to clear my wounds up. I slowly unfurled my wings, then took a running start and jumped into the air. I was used to being alone, so it didn’t faze me too much, but still. I had saved him and they just left?! Without any note or anything?

I soared through the night air, relishing in the cool air. Suddenly, I saw six large figures soaring towards me. At first, it looked like a small flock of birds but as I got closer, I saw that they were wearing sneakers and birds don’t wear sneakers.

“Why are you up?” The leader asked. I detected a hint of concern in her voice and a warm feeling spread through me.

I then realized that they were all staring at me, waiting for an explanation. I shrugged.

“I thought you guys left.” I said and even I could hear the loss and desperation in my voice.

“We wouldn’t leave you, Nikki! Not after you saved Fang’s life!” The littlest girl chirped.

“We never did properly introduce ourselves. I’m Max, that’s Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy and Angel.” The leader said.

“I’m Nikki.” I answered. Angel smiled.

“So, are you like, three things or something?” Max asked, motioning to my brown and black wings.

“I’m 95% human, 3% wolf and 2% avian.” I answered. Angel giggled suddenly and Iggy turned bright red. I gave her a confused look, but she just shrugged. I rolled my eyes.

Suddenly, a wave of pain hit. I let out a small gasp and my hands automatically went to my stomach.

“Let’s land.” Max ordered. Everyone nodded and we landed. My landing was a little rocky and I stumbled straight into Fang. Everyone seemed to be holding their breath as he gripped my shoulder, but he just helped me sit down. Everyone released the breath as one gust.
