Chapter 1(Jasper’s POV)
I was waiting in the airport for my girlfriend, Alice, to come pick me up. Alice Cullen was my best friends’ cousin. Emmet McCarty and Edward Mason were my best friends. Alice and I met when she was at Emmet’s house with Edward. We had immediately clicked. A week after we had met, I had asked her out. We were going to East Coast Academy with Alice and her two best friends Rosalie Hale and Bella Swan. Suddenly, Alice bounced up to me, Emmet, and Edward.
Alice was very short, only about four foot, nine, with black hair that was spiked up all the time. She had the same green eyes as Edward and Emmet. She was a shopaholic, as I called her. She hugged us. She looked like she was about to burst.
“Hey Alice.” I said calmly and she exploded.
“OMG!! I’M SO EXCITED THAT YOU GUYS ARE HERE! LET’S GO!” She squealed and picked up all of our luggage. I stared after her, astonished. I followed her as she climbed into an old pickup truck.
“Really Alice?” Edward asked, staring at the rusty truck. He jumped as she started the engine with a roar.
“It’s Bella’s. I don’t have a car, so she lent me her truck. Rose’s car is in the shop, so…” She trailed off as Edward and I climbed in the front, then Emmet climbed in the bed. The truck roared as we pulled out of the parking lot. We were driving down the road, when suddenly, with a last thump, the truck died. Alice cursed under her breath and pulled out her cell.
“Bella, your truck died…again.” She said into the phone, then there was a silence.
“No, I think its dead for good.” She replied.
“See ya soon then.” She said and snapped her phone shut.
“Let’s push the truck over to the side of the road.” She said to us as Emmet jumped out of the bed and we pushed it over. Suddenly, a dark blue mustang convertible pulled up behind the truck, engine revving.
“WOOHOO! I GOT IT RUNNING ALICE!” A brunette jumped out of the mustang and did a little dance. Alice started dancing with her.
“Nice!” She said, then motioned to the truck. The brunette walked past me, her hand brushing Edward’s arm and he tensed up. I smirked at him. She opened the hood and smoke billowed out into her face. She waved the smoke away as I came up beside her.
“Yep, it’s dead.” She confirmed, slamming the hood shut. I chuckled, and the brunette’s head snapped towards me.
“Hey there, I’m Bella.” She said, sticking her hand out to me. I shook her hand.
“Jasper. This is Emmet, and Edward.” I introduced them. She nodded to them.
“Well, I guess I’m going to call the tow company.” She said. Suddenly, a huge pickup truck pulled up and the driver’s window rolled down.
“Hey, need some help?” A blonde girl asked, smirking.
“Hey Rose, yeah, help would be nice.” Bella said. Rose laughed a little.
“Your truck dead for good?” Rose asked Bella, smiling. Bella glared at her playfully.
“Yeah. I can probably fix it, but now I got the mustang running, so I don’t need this ancient thing anymore.” Bella laughed. Rose pulled up in front of the truck and stopped. Bella pulled a towing rope out of her bed and hooked it onto the towing hook on the front of her truck and the other end onto the towing hook on the back of Rose’s truck. Rose started to drive forward. Bella pulled the luggage out of the bed and put it in her trunk. She climbed into the driver’s seat and Alice climbed into the passenger’s seat. Edward, Emmet, and I climbed into the back seat and she pulled onto the road.
By the time we were at East Coast Academy, I was hanging onto the edge of my seat for dear life. My face was pale and the blood was roaring in my ears. Emmet and Edward were pale as well, their lips pressed into hard lines. Bella giggled at our faces as I slowly let go of the seat. Emmet scrambled out of the car, falling to the pavement. I climbed out and slammed the door, leaning up against the car as my legs started to gain their feeling.
“Come on, you guys, it wasn’t that bad.” Alice exclaimed. I just stared at her in shock.
“We have to go to the office.” Emmet said, just as Rose pulled up. I burst out laughing at the sight of Bella’s ancient truck, still attached to Rose’s truck. The bumper was crushed, the passenger door completely gone. Rose’s truck was fine.
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY TRUCK?” Bella screeched at Rose. Rose grinned sheepishly.
“Well, there was this guy and he kind of…crashed into your truck…” Rose said, looking down and scuffling her shoe against the pavement.
“Fix it. Now.” She commanded Rose, deadly calm. Rose nodded and drove into a garage. Bella motioned to us. We followed her into a building. There was a blonde girl wearing daisy dukes and a shirt that only barely covered her…ahem…cleavage. Edward was drooling until Bella brushed past him.
“But Daaaavvveeee!” The girl was whining to the guy behind the counter. His face lit up as he saw Bella walk towards the desk.
“Dave, I’m over here!” The girl whined, shoving her breasts in his face. He pushed her back by her shoulder.
“I said no, now go away Lauren.” He said. She huffed and shouldered Bella, kind of hard, but Bella didn’t even move. Bella leaned over the desk, her low cut shirt sort of helping.
“Dave, can you make Jasper Alice’s roommate, and Emmet Rose’s roommate? I would really like that.” She asked in a seductive voice. I felt Edward tense up and I hit him on the arm.
“Yeah, of course. Who is Edward going to room with?” He asked. She leaned her hands on her chin and made her eyes wide and innocent.
“Me.” She said and he immediately changed it, then printed out our schedules. Bella winked at him and we all walked out. When we got a safe distance away, Bella shuddered and pulled her shirt up a bit.
“That guy is such a perv!” She said. I chuckled and she rounded on me.
“You think this is funny!?” She screeched and slapped me across the face.
“OW! Why’d you just slap me?!” I yelled. She put on an innocent face and looked up at me through her lashes. She looked adorable, in a brotherly sisterly way.
“I didn’t. I high-fived you in your face.” She said, sounding sad. I couldn’t say no.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell.” I sighed and pulled her into a hug. She smiled into my shoulder. Suddenly, Alice was shouldering Bella away.
“MY JASPER!” She yelled, but she looked playful.
“NO! MINE!” Bella screeched and jumped on my back.
“GO JASPER!” She screeched. I started to run as Bella’s legs wrapped around my waist. I ran faster, knowing that Bella was secure and wasn’t going to fall.
“BELLS!” Alice screeched and I looked back to see that she was just staring at us. I stopped and Bella slid off of me, landing on her butt with an oof. I put my hand out and she took it. I pulled her up and she dusted herself off. Alice walked up and we all walked to our dorm building. Bella’s room was across from Alice and I’s room and Emmet and Rose’s room was next to ours. We all went our separate ways. I closed the door and stared around the spacious room. There was a small kitchen and two beds on opposite walls. I put my stuff on the empty one. Alice walked up to me and I brought her into a kiss.
“I’m so glad you’re here.” She whispered against my lips. I smiled against hers and we fell back onto the bed.
Chapter 2(Bella’s POV)
Edward claimed the bed that wasn’t mine. I smiled as he explored our room. It wasn’t anything too big. It had a bathroom and a small kitchen.
“So, Edward…how was Forks?” I asked, trying to make conversation. He started to answer when his phone rang. He picked it up.
“Hello?” he asked. There was a voice on the other end that sounded vaguely like a girl. “Hey Cassie. Whoa there, slow down. What exactly did Tommy say?” He said. “Mhmm, ok. When a guy says that, he just needs space. Give him his room and he’ll come around. Ok. Talk to you later. Yeah, we just got here. No we’re good. Cassie, I gotta go. No, ew!” he shouted and hung up, then turned to me. “Sorry.” He said.
“It’s cool.” I replied, shrugging. Who was Cassie? Was she Edward’s girlfriend? Questions floated in my head. “Was that your girlfriend?” I asked.
“EW!” He shouted. I leaped back from his sudden outburst. His expression was horrified. “She’s like a sister! She’s one of my best friend’s girlfriend.” He explained. I nodded. “So anyway…Forks was good. It was rainy, as usual, but I guess it was ok.” He replied.
“This is a big change for you, huh?” I asked. He nodded and lay down on his bed. He was probably tired, so I put my ear buds in and picked up Wuthering Heights. He sat up and said something to me. I pulled one of my ear buds out.
“Huh?” I asked. He laughed as I motioned to my ear buds.
“I said, what time do we usually go to dinner? Do I have time to take a nap?” He asked.
“You have at least a few hours.” I replied. He nodded his thanks and I put my ear buds back in my ears. I moved to a few different positions before I decided on lying on the floor on my stomach. Somewhere along the way, I fell asleep. I vaguely felt strong arms lifting me into my bed and pulling the sheets over my body before I drifted back into sleep.
“BELLA!” A certain pixie screeched, jumping on my bed. I groaned and turned over, pulling the covers over my head.
“Bella, its dinner time!” Rose informed me. I stood up, stretching and noticed Edward was still asleep. He looked adorable. His lips were partly open, his face so relaxed. His hands were clasped across his chest and his hair was in even more disarray then before. I got up and poked him in the side. A smile twitched across his face. I kept poking him.
“Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up.” I said repeatedly. When he didn’t wake up, I started poking harder and talking louder. “Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” I said. He finally rolled over and cracked his eyes open blearily. “Dinner.” I said and dragged him off of his bed. He groaned and dragged his sheets down with him.
“No.” he growled. Alice got ready to scream at him, but I covered her mouth.
“Let him sleep.” I said quietly. She nodded and we all walked to dinner together, minus Edward. Dinner was uneventful. I laughed and talked with my friends. When I got back, Edward was gone. No note or anything. I walked across the hall and knocked on Jasper’s door. He answered it, the top buttons of his shirt undone and his hair messy.
“Is Edward there?” I asked. He shook his head and slammed the door in my face. I stepped over to Emmet and Rose’s door, but when I heard the odd noises coming from their room, I decided against it. Instead, I walked downstairs and out into the night air. I heard the murmur of voices on the side of the building.
“Oh Eddie.” A girl moaned. I peered around the building. Edward was pushing a girl up against the wall and kissing her as she grinded into him. I felt like my heart had broken into little pieces.
We weren’t going out. He wasn’t mine. So why did I feel like this?
Chapter 3(Edward’s POV)
What am I doing? I carefully pushed the blonde away. She took a step towards me and I took a step back.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for leading you on, but I don’t like you.” I said and walked away. When I turned the corner, I saw Bella slide down the building. She looked sick. “Bella! What’s wrong?!” I exclaimed, jogging up to her. She looked up at me, the shock and hurt in her eyes. “Bella, did you see that?” I asked cautiously. She nodded. “I’m sorry. She kind of threw herself at me and even though I’m a gentleman, I’m still a teenage boy.” I said. I’m not really sure why I was apologizing.
“It’s ok. Can we just pretend that never happened?” She asked. I nodded and held my hand out to her. “Let’s walk.” She said. And we did just that. We talked randomly and figured out that we like the same music, same books, same movies.
We were walking back, arguing about whether Coldplay or Nickleback were better when Alice burst out of the building wide eyed with Jasper right behind her.
“What’s wrong?” I asked immediately. Alice calmed down at the sight of us.
“You guys weren’t in your room and there wasn’t a note. We were afraid you were attacked or something.” Alice said.
“With my muscles, we couldn’t get hurt.” I gloated teasingly. Jasper chuckled and Alice rolled her eyes.
“I could take you!” Bella exclaimed. I raised my eyebrow at her and she nodded, looking completely serious.
“Don’t doubt her, Edward. Bella’s got hidden skills.” Alice said.
