The Forgotten One

Chapter 1(Max’s POV)

I can’t believe that Jeb left me. He took all of the other human-avian kids when I was ten. I’m fourteen now, and I’m getting out today. I waited for the eraser’s breath to stop. It started getting heavy and finally stopped, followed by a thump as it fell to the floor. I pulled on the door handle and it opened. I stepped out of the room and sirens immediately blared. I ran down a hallway into a room. It had a cage in it. There was a girl in it. Her blonde curls framed her innocent face. I ripped the bars off of the cage. Her face was one big bruise and she had many scratches. I picked her up and slung her over my shoulder. I continued to run down the hallway until I saw a door, blocked with erasers. I ran straight at them, barreling into them and bursting out the door. I leaped up and unfurled my wings. I used my super speed to get away from there as fast as I could. I saw four flying figures that looked like more bird kids. I figured they were here for the little girl. They stopped when they saw me flying towards them. The leader, a dark haired boy, had a stone face as I neared them. I stopped in front of them and handed the girl off to the boy, who seemed to be the leader of them. I turned around, only to be confronted by Ari and his eraser army.

“Well, well, well, look what the cat coughed up.” I snarled at him.

“I’m going to have fun killing you, Maximum.” He said.

“In your dreams.” I replied. Ari’s face turned red with anger. I snickered. That set him off. He lunged at me. I braced myself. We barreled backwards. The kids moved aside. I kicked Ari off of me. I lunged at him. I choked him until his wings folded in like paper. I let go of him and watched him fall as his army went after him, flying clumsily. I turned back around.

“Well, that went well.” I said.

“Thank you for saving her, but now we have to go.” The boy grinded out through clenched teeth.

“I should go too.” I said. I started past them, but a small grip held onto my torn jacket. I turned around. The blonde girl was holding onto my jacket.

“You should come with us.” She said in a small voice.

“Ummmm, I don’t know.” I said awkwardly.

Chapter 2(Fang’s POV)

They took Angel. Now, I was mad.

“Come on, guys.” I growled. We launched ourselves towards the school. We were flying towards the school when we saw a girl about my age. She was holding onto something. That something was Angel. I motioned for the flock to stop. The girl stopped in front of us and handed Angel to me. She turned around to face an eraser army. She talked some trash to the eraser in the front. The fight ended up with the girl pushing the eraser down.

“Well, that went well.” She said.

“Thank you for saving her, but we should go.” I growled at her.

“I should go too.” She said. She started to pass us, but Angel grabbed her torn windbreaker. The girl turned around.

“You should stay with us.” She said. My gaze snapped to her.

“Ummmm, I don’t know.” She said awkwardly.

“Please, Fang.” Angel looked up at me.

“I guess so.” I sighed.

“Maybe only for a while.” She said. We started flying. The girl stayed at the back.

“Who are you anyway?” I asked as I came back to her. She stopped flying.

“Who am I, who am I, I’m Maximum Ride, remember me?” She asked. She was the girl who we had left behind, four years ago! The realization hit me like a storm.

“I-we-uh-we.” I stuttered.

“Don’t worry, I’m not mad at you.” She said.

“Maybe I should go.” She said, turning around.

“No, don’t leave!” Angel shrieked. The girl turned around, a surprised look on her face.

“Huh?” She said, obviously confused.

“I want you to stay. I want to make up for leaving you.” Angel said.

“It was Jeb, not you guys.” Max said back to Angel.

“I want you to stay, though.” Angel pleaded.

“I guess I’ll stay for a little while.” Max said. Angel cheered. Max smiled a little bit. She continued flying at the back. Suddenly, she started screaming, clutching her head and falling. I sighed and zoomed after her. Angel and Nudge looked scared while Gazzy was explaining to Iggy what was happening. I scooped her into my arms and we started rising again. Her eyes were glazed over in pain. She slowly pulled her arms from her head. She opened her brown eyes and blinked up at me.

“STUPID JEB, I HATE YOU AND I NEVER WANT TO LISTEN OR SEE YOU AGAIN!” She suddenly screamed. She shook her head dejectedly and rubbed her temples.

“I can fly.” She said to me. I let her go without another word. She unfurled her tawny wings.
