Chapter 1(Kat’s POV)
As I flew above the world on the swing, I saw a guy walking away. I looked down at Cassie who was giggling at my silliness.
“HEY SEXY!” I shouted. He turned around and I waved to him. He rolled his eyes and walked away.
“Kat! Stop it!” Cassie gasped out through her giggles. I shrugged. “Seriously, people are going to think you’re a freak.”
“I am.” I replied. Suddenly, I caught sight of five people climbing out of two cars. One of the cars just happened to be a Bat Mobile. “Cassie! Cassie, Black Veil Brides are here!” I hissed.
“Kat, don’t!” She exclaimed, but it was too late. I had my mind set. As they walked towards us, I cleared my throat. “Kat!” Cassie hissed.
“HEY TEHRE HOT STUFF! WHY DON’T YOU COME OVER HERE, SEXY!” I shouted.
“Kat!” Cassie hissed, turning red. I giggled as they continued to walk towards us. Sandra chuckled.
“Andy is so used to that.” She said.
“Oh, I wasn’t talking to Andy.” I said, winking at her. Cassie burst out laughing as I giggled.
“K-Kat you are s-so weird!” She exclaimed through her laughs. I chuckled.
“You know it, biatch!” I exclaimed. “I think I need CPR, cause’ you take my breath away.” I said to Ashley.
“Kat, stop it.” Nikki said, walking up with Jason in tow.
“Stop what?” I asked her seriously.
“Stop being yourself. You scare people and the last SANE person we talked to ran away screaming because of you.” She said, sitting on the grass with Jason.
“It’s not my fault they couldn’t handle all of this.” I said indignantly, pushing myself higher on the swing. “Ugh! I hate being short!” I screeched. Cassie chuckled. Suddenly, hands were on my back, shoving me. I went flying through the air and almost fell off. “WEEEEE!” I shouted, gripping the chains with so much force that my hands started to hurt. As I flew back by, I saw Andy dive out of the way. “THANK YOU!” I screamed at him.
“Welcome!” He yelled back. I giggled and accidentally let go. I went flying off, screaming and landed in the grass. I opened my eyes to see Krista leaning over me.
“Nice.” She said, holding her hand out to me. I took it and she pulled me up, then brushed my back off.
“That knocked the breath out of me.” I panted, sitting back on my swing.
“Kat, you are the most immature 19 year old I’ve ever met.” Cassie said. Andy stared incredulously at me.
“What?” I asked, suddenly self conscious. I looked down at myself. “Do I have something on my face?” I asked him.
“No no!” He exclaimed. “It’s just that…you are the shortest 19 year old I’ve ever met.” He said.
“You know it! I’m 5’5.” I answered. He gaped at me.
“Holy shizz! I was like, 5’9 when I was 19.” He exclaimed. I nodded, giggling.
“Yeah…” I trailed off.
“Are you done growing?” Jinxx asked me incredulously. I nodded, looking down at my small, petite frame. “What the shizz!” He exclaimed.
“Ok, I get it! I’m short!” I exclaimed, throwing my hands up. “By the by, I’m Kat.” I said.
“You can try to call her Kitty, but only close friends get to call her that. I’m Cassie.”
“I’m Nikki and this is my boyfriend Jason.”
“And I’m Krista! We’re all 19 except for Cassie, who’s 21.” Krista explained.
“I’m Andy. That’s Jinxx, Jake, Sandra, and Ashley.” He introduced. “I’m 20, Jinxx is…actually, Jinxx won’t tell us how old he is. Now that I think of it, neither will Sandra and Ashley. Jake is 24 though, I know that much.” He chuckled. Suddenly, I saw another random guy.
“HEY THERE! KEEP ON WALKING AWAY SO I CAN WATCH YOU!” I shouted. He turned around with a freaked out look on his face before sprinting away.
“Did you SEE the look on his face?!” Krista exclaimed as Nikki cracked up. I nodded.
“And that is why I enjoy doing that.” I said.
“She’s kinda crazy…”Andy trailed off.
“Straight up!” I shouted at him.
“You kinda get used to it after a while.” Cassie shrugged. “It’s a natural thing for her.”
“That’s ok. Crazies rule.” Sandra said. I chuckled and nodded.
“You know it, biatch!” I exclaimed. She held her hand up for a high five. I slapped her hand.
“Short people are weird.” Cassie muttered.
“I’m not short; I’m fun-sized, dammit!” I shouted at her. She chuckled. “Anyway…I’m so obsessed with you guys.” I said.
“You sure don’t seem like it.” Jake said. I shrugged.
“I’m containing the screaming 12 year old inside of me.” I replied, grinning. He chuckled.
“Well, go ahead and let it out. We love to bask in the glow.” He said. I let it out.
“OH MY GOD! I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU! I LOOOOOVVEEE YOUUUU!” I screamed and took another deep breath. “YOUR MUSIC IS AMAZING. THE LYRICS HIT HOME, THE GUITAR MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM IN JEALOUSY, THE BASS LINES ARE ALWAYS UNIQUE AND AMAZING AND THE DRUMS RULE.” I shrieked.
“She’s not done.” Cassie warned as I took another deep breath.
“I CAN’T BELIVE I’M HERE MEETING YOU AND HANGING OUT WITH YOU AND I JUST WANNA HUG YOU ALL TO DEATH!” I finished, panting. “Ok, I’m done.” I said.
“Damn girl, you got a set of lungs!” Jake exclaimed. I laughed.
“What! Speak up! I can’t hear you!” Andy shouted. I giggled and rolled my eyes. Cassie chuckled.
“You should’ve heard her at your concert. She couldn’t talk for the next week.” She laughed.
“In my defense, I was close enough to touch.” I said, waggling my finger at her. She laughed and rolled her eyes.
“You’re such a nerd, Kat!” She said.
“Whatever. I have homework due tomorrow; I should get working on that. Later all.” I said, waving. I started to walk to my bike.
“Hey, wait up!” Andy called. I turned around as he jogged up to me. “Can I have your number?” He asked. I gave him my phone and he gave me his. We entered ourselves and took pictures of ourselves, making them our contact pictures.
“Talk to you later.” I said, winking and sauntering away. My phone vibrated and I pulled it out.
I’m gonna watch you walk away. -6 is the number
I looked back at him, smiling.
Be my guest. –Kitty Kat
I faintly heard him chuckle as I started up my Ducati and sped out of the parking lot to the house that I shared with Cassie. I fell asleep with a smile on my face.

I woke up the next morning to my alarm clock going off. I groaned and slammed my hand down on top of it. I rolled out of bed, still half asleep and went to my closet. I grabbed my Black Veil Brides tank top. I then grabbed my white skinny jeans plus underwear and a bra and went into the bathroom. I took a shower. When I was finished, I blow dried my hair, applied my makeup and put on my black chucks. I grabbed my black backpack plus my leather riding jacket and keys and headed out to classes. I got in a few minutes before class started. I sat in the back and waited for class to start. I didn’t have any friends in this class, so it was pretty boring.
Halfway through class, my phone vibrated. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at it under the desk. It was from Andy.
Hey. Whatcha doin? -6 is the number
I’m in class. What you doin? –Kitty Kat
Just woke up. I’m eating breakfast. What class? -6 is the number
English. Shit, the teacher is coming close. Later –Kitty Kat
I pushed my phone into my pocket and started the lesson. She glanced down at my paper to find it almost done.
“Good work, Katrina.” She said and walked back to the front. I sighed in relief.
The class let out soon and the first half of my classes flew by. When it was lunch time, I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Andy’s number. He picked up on the third ring.
“Hello?” He answered.
“Hey! Wanna come down here for lunch?” I asked him.
“Sure, why not. Where exactly is here?” He asked. I chuckled.
“Cali. U.” I answered.
“K, be there soon. Don’t get food, I’ll bring pizza.” He said.
“Ok. See you soon!” I said and hung up. I sat at a table alone and waited for Andy. He got here pretty soon dawning two pizzas and a large bottle of soda. He sat down and opened the pizzas. One was cheese and one was pepperoni.
“Are we going to eat ALL of this?” I asked incredulously.
“Nah, but Jake and Jinxx like leftovers.” He answered, shrugging. I laughed as he drank the Mountain Dew from the bottle then put it down. I took it and took a big gulp. “So…what exactly possessed you to invite me to lunch?” He asked. I shrugged.
“I don’t know. I just kinda figured that you wouldn’t mind. If I’m cutting into your schedule, you can leave.” I said.
“And leave you here to eat alone? No way! I may not look like it, but I can be a gentleman when I want to.” He said. I giggled and took a slice of pizza. “How many classes you got after this?” He asked, his mouth full.
“Two. But one is cancelled today, so…” I trailed off.
“Wanna skip?” He asked. I chuckled and nodded.
“Sounds fun.” I replied.
We finished lunch and decided to go to the park again. As I followed his car on my Ducati, I thought about the odd feelings I was having for him. I liked him as more than a friend and I wondered if he felt like that too.
Probably not. He’s got a bunch of girls throwing themselves at him, why would he choose you.
Because…because…oh, you’re right. Who am I kidding?
I pulled into the parking spot, my good mood dampened by my common sense. He got out of his car and we walked to the swings. I scowled as a little girl ran away from us to her mom. I sat on the swing and looked at the ground.
“Kat?” Andy asked me. I looked up at him. He looked kind of nervous. “Kat, I really like you.”
“Aw, thanks! You’re a good friend too.” I said. He looked like he was about to be sick.
“I mean as more than a friend.” He said, sounding queasy and nervous. I was silent with shock. “I understand if you don’t feel the same way, I just wanted to get that off of my chest. Later, I guess.” He started walking away.
“Wait!” I shouted, speeding up to him. “I do. I do like you like that, I was just shocked. Out of all of the girls to choose from, and you choose me. That confuses me.” I said, watching the smile grow on his face.
“Who wouldn’t?” He asked softly. I glanced up at him.
“Everyone.” I muttered.
“Kat, you are amazing. You’re cute, funny and intelligent. Any guy who would go out with you would be one lucky guy.” He said. I blushed at what I was about to say.
“How would you like to be that lucky guy?” I asked shyly, looking up at him through my lashes. The smile on his face grew.
“That would be amazing.” He said, wrapping his arms around my waist and swinging me into the air. I screamed. My mood was so bright that it blinded me. I was blinded with happiness. He set me back on my feet.
“Andy, your happy glow is blinding!” Jake exclaimed. I gasped, spinning around.
“How long have you been there?!” I shrieked.
“Long enough.” He chuckled. I screamed and launched myself at him, hands outstretched.
“Hey hey! No hurting my boyfriend!” Cassie exclaimed. I gasped, freezing. She giggled.
“Whaaaat?” I asked in shock. She giggled as Jake wrapped his arm around her waist. “Aaah! Cassie! I’m so happy for you! Finally, someone who can compensate for your insaneness!” I exclaimed.
“Me? What about you? Getting freaky with the singer.” She shook her hips and I blushed.
“Shut up!” I muttered. Suddenly, arms wrapped around my waist. I jumped in surprise and shrieked, but it was just Andy. He rested his chin on my head and chuckled.
“Just the right height.” He said.
“Ok! I’m short, no need to remind me! God!” I exclaimed in mock anger. He chuckled.
“Oooohhh!” I heard a shriek. “There’s love in the air!” Krista shrieked running up. I rolled my eyes. “Getting freaky with the band mates?” She asked. I blushed and Andy chuckled.
“Krista, leave them alone.” Nikki said, coming up with Jason behind her. He seemed absorbed in his phone.
“What is he doing?” I muttered to Nikki.
“Looking for a good place to do Laser Tag. We’re having an end of the year party.” She said.
“Oh yay! I love laser tag!” I exclaimed. Krista burst into laughter and Cassie giggled.
“Yeah, the last time we went, we were kicked out because you were so into it.” Cassie chuckled.
“Yup. Oh! Do you remember at Laser Quest?” She asked.
“Shut up! Don’t you dare tell them, Krista!” I shrieked.
“Sorry Kitty.” She shrugged. “We were running and Kat tripped and fell. She hit her head on the wall and totally conked out. When she woke up, she started screaming ‘bad guys! I’ve been captured!’ It was fudging hilarious!” Krista was laughing. I stepped out of Andy’s embrace and walked away, my face bright red.
“Oh, Come on Kat! It was funny!” Nikki shouted. I sat down on the grass, waiting for my face to stop flaming. Andy sat next to me and I refused to look at him.
“Kat?” He asked. In my surprise, he actually sounded sad. “It wasn’t that bad. I think it’s kinda cute.” He said. I turned to him, smiling shyly.
“Really?” I asked. He nodded, smiling. He stood up and held his hand out. I took it and he pulled me up. We meandered back towards the group and I heard Cassie telling them the story of how Krista actually jumped off of the base. She was being a good sister.
“And she almost broke her leg! It was hilarious!” Cassie said.
“That was in secrecy, Cassie!” She exclaimed, her face red. I leaned over.
“Now you know how I feel.” I whispered. She turned to me.
“I’m sorry, Kat.” She said.
“Nah, it’s cool. It was funny though.” I said. She smiled. “How about that time I broke my arm and cracked my head open?” I asked. Cassie laughed. “You see, I’ve always been a bit of a klutz. One time, when we were playing laser tag, I tripped and hit my head on the floor, then Jason proceeded to run me over.” I chuckled. “He paid for my medical bill.”
“Yeah, and it was expensive. Those stitches were expensive!” He exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.
“There were 25 of them, Jason. That tends to cost a lot.” I said. Andy’s grip on my hand tightened and I looked up at him.
“25?” He choked out. I nodded. “Holy crap, Kat!” He exclaimed.
“Yeah…” I trailed off, staring up at Andy. I got lost in his blue eyes.
Chapter 2(Andy’s POV)
“Aha! I found it!” Jason cried in triumph, pulling me from my reverie. I tore my eyes away from Kat’s to look at Jason. “We’re going to the biggest laser tag place in the state! Then we’re going to see a movie. Then we’ll go back to Kat and Cassie’s house and have a slumber party!” He said, saying slumber party in a gay voice. I laughed and shook my head at Kat’s silly friend.
“Oh my god!” Kat gasped suddenly. I looked over at her sharply.
“What?” I asked her, seeing Cassie roll her eyes.
“Classes are…done. I’M DONE! YES!” She shouted, jumping up and down and pumping her fist in the air. I laughed and wrapped my arms around my silly girlfriend. It felt good to think that. Girlfriend. Kat was my girlfriend.
“What are you grinning at?” Jake asked. I pulled myself out of my stupor.
“Nothing.” I said. He shook his head and turned to Cassie. She was staring at the ground with a perplexed expression.
“What’s up, Cassie?” Jake asked her.
“I’m just…thinking.” She murmured, holding up a finger. She suddenly turned bright red. “EW! BAD THOUGHTS, CASSIE! BAD THOUGHTS!” She suddenly screeched, leaping away from Jake and I knew what she had been thinking. Kat giggled.
“Cassie, can I just say one thing?” She asked. Cassie looked up at her. “Use a condom.” She said. Cassie screamed in embarrassment and started chasing Kat around the playground. I watched as realization flashed across Jake’s face. He burst out laughing. Suddenly, Kat screamed. I watched as an expression of horror crossed Cassie’s face as she stood on top of the play set.
“Kat?” She called down. I then realized what happened. Kat had fallen off. I raced to her and fell to my knees next to her. Her eyes were closed.
“Kat?” I asked softly. Her eyes flashed open and relief filled my entire body. “Thank god you’re okay.” I whispered, pulling her into a hug. She giggled softly as I buried my face in her hair. “I’ll be keeping a special eye on you, silly girl.” I murmured. She smiled sheepishly as I helped her up. We walked back to the swings and sat on them.
“So everyone meet at my house tomorrow at three. The movie is at 7:45. We’re seeing The Last Airbender.” Jason said. “Now Nikki and I have to go. We’re going to dinner tonight.” He smiled lovingly at Nikki. She giggled as they walked away, hand in hand.
“Everyone’s in love.” Krista said, sounding depressed. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” She said and walked away. Kat jumped up and ran over to her. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but Kat was concerned and Krista was just glum. Krista suddenly perked up and nodded vigorously, hugging Kat before running to her car. Kat came back smiling.
“What did you say to her?” Cassie asked suspiciously.
“I told her to invite Nick to our little party.” She said. “Cassie, it’s time for some matchmaking.” She winked. Cassie squealed and clapped her hands together.
“Operation Nicksta start!” Cassie exclaimed. I looked at Jake over Cassie’s head with a perplexed expression.
“Nicksta?” He asked. Cassie turned to him.
“Krista and Nick put together.” She said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Jake turned to me and I shrugged.
“They need to sit next to each other at the movie. And in laser tag, she needs to stay with him and him only. Then, at the slumber party, we’ll put their sleeping bags next to each other.” Kat said, listing off all of the activities.
“And knowing Nikki, we’ll be playing spin the bottle and truth or dare: Nikki style.” Cassie said to her. “So we’ll put them next to each other for all of the games. And I’ll dare Krista to kiss Nick.” Cassie thought. “Then, we’ll all pretend to fall asleep and see what they say to each other.” She ended.
“Sounds great!” Kat chirped, swinging a bit on the swings. I pushed her and she giggled. “I believe I can flyyyy!” She sang. I chuckled and sat on the swing next to her, swinging in time with her. “Let’s play eggs and bacon!” She exclaimed, stopping herself. I stopped as well and we locked elbows and legs. Cassie and Jake tried to get us apart, but it was impossible.
“Inseparable. I’m jealous.” Cassie said. “Our turn!” She chirped. They were impossible to get apart as well.
“Inseparable. I’m jealous.” Kat mocked. I chuckled as Cassie rolled her eyes at Kat. Suddenly, a younger girl ran to the park giggling. She seemed about 15 and had black hair covering her eyes. There was a guy chasing her. He had black hair with some brown streaks.
“Chris, stop!” She squealed, sprinting around the playground with him chasing her. Kat smiled and reached for my hand. I took it.
The younger girl finally caught sight of us and came to a dead stop. She gaped at us, her eyes wide.
“Y…you’re…Black Veil Brides.” She breathed. I chuckled and nodded. “Oh my god…you guys are amazing.” She exclaimed.
“I’m Andy. And you are…?” I trailed off, waiting for her to say her name.
“Kristine.” She answered, staring up at me in awe. She flicked her bangs out of her eyes. She had vibrant green eyes.
“Kris, Sarah’s here. Oh, hi!” The guy said. “I’m Chris!” He said hyperly. “You guys rule. Not to be rude, but Kris and I must be going. Nice to meet you.” He called, dragging Kristine away. I waved with my free hand.
“They were nice. Kinda young to like our music though, don’t you think?” I asked Kat. She shook her head, smiling knowingly.
“You reach audiences between the ages of 13-25.” She said, grinning.
“Wow…I had no idea!” I exclaimed. She grinned and nodded.
“It’s crazy, right?” She asked. I chuckled and nodded.
“You sure are.” I said, grinning. She laughed and pushed my shoulder lightly. “No, seriously though, you are crazy.” I said seriously. She gasped playfully.
“How dare you say that!” She exclaimed. I laughed and slung my arm lazily across her shoulders.
“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” A voice drawled. Kat froze as did Cassie.
“Oh my god…TOMMY!” Kat screeched, running towards the brown haired guy and throwing her arms around his torso. Jealousy flared through me as I clenched my fists. He looked too old for her, 25 or 26. Cassie flung her arms around his neck and the confusion set in. Kat grabbed the guy’s hand and dragged him over.
“This is our older brother, Tommy.” Cassie grinned. Relief flooded through me and my fists unclenched. “Who’s SUPPOSED to be in TEXAS!” She exclaimed. “Explain!” She said firmly.
“Maya kicked me out.” He muttered. I winced in sympathy.
“Oh my god! What a bitch!” Cassie exclaimed. He shook his head vigorously.
“Don’t call her that.” He said sternly. “It was my fault. I shouldn’t have started that fight. It was about something stupid.” He said, shrugging.
“Will you tell us?” Kat asked quietly. He sighed and sat on the swings, his lanky legs stretched in front of him.
“I got on the computer. When I pulled up the internet, her email was up. I know I shouldn’t have pried, but I saw an email from some other guy named Robert.” He said. “When I clicked on it, it said ‘Hey babe. Can’t wait till tonight. Love you always, Rob.’ I freaked out and called her. She said that it was probably the wrong address, but when I checked in her trash, there was a bunch from him, so when she got home, I asked her about it and we argued.” He shrugged.
“She is a bitch, and don’t even start, Thomas.” Kat said angrily. “Leave her. Find another girl.” She said. He shook his head.
“She loves me! She promised to stop.” He said, smiling.
“She doesn’t love you!” Kat yelled, throwing her hands up and I saw him flinch. “If she loved you, she wouldn’t have cheated in the first place!”
“She does, Katrina.” He said quietly, but even he didn’t sound convinced.
“No, she doesn’t.” She said. He clenched his fists and nodded. “NO SHE DOESN’T!” She screamed and he broke. He launched his fist at her and she fell to the ground with a thump as he froze. I kneeled next to Kat as tears welled up in her eyes.
“Oh my god, Kat, I’m so s…” He started, but she had already run away. I followed her without a second glance.
“She’s right, Tom.” I vaguely heard Cassie say before I heard two sets of feet behind me. Cassie and Jake must be following me. I followed Kat until she tripped and fell to her knees with her head in her hands, her shoulders shaking. I finally reached her and wrapped my arms around her, pressing her face softly into my shoulder. Cassie sat down and patted her back while Jake sat next to Cassie and wrapped his arm around her waist.
“Shhh shhh.” I whispered into her hair.
When she was finally finished crying, my shirt was soaked. She pulled away from me, not looking at me and stood up. Cassie and Jake stood up as well and I did too.
“Why don’t we go home?” Cassie said softly, taking Kat’s hand and walking with her to their cars. “Can you drive?” She asked Kat. Kat nodded wordlessly and pulled her helmet on, getting on her bike and speeding out of the parking lot. I sighed dejectedly and rubbed my hand over my face. “She’s just embarrassed, Andy.” Cassie said softly. “Why don’t you follow me to my house?” She said. I nodded and did exactly that.
When I walked into their house, Kat was laying on the couch. The TV was on, but she didn’t seem to be watching it.
“Talk to her.” Cassie whispered and dragged Jake upstairs. I sat down in the armchair beside the couch in silence, waiting for her to talk.
“I’m sorry.” She finally said. “For, you know, just leaving like that.” She said. I lay down next to her and took her into my arms.
“It’s fine.” I whispered, turning so that I was on my back and she was lying on my chest.
